The geography of independent advertising networks has always been a story of strategic cartography, with executives peering at maps and asking themselves where, exactly, they need to be.
On Tuesday, Meet the People, the independent holding company founded by Tim Ringel, answered that question for itself by acquiring the Loomis Agency, a Dallas-based shop that will give the network its first significant presence in the American South. The financial terms were not disclosed, which is to say they were not disclosed.
Mr. Ringel, the founder and global chief executive of Meet the People, said the acquisition was designed to fill a regional gap in a network that has been assembling itself piece by piece across multiple markets. "Texas is a market we really wanted, and combined with the skills that Loomis has across creative and media, it just made a ton of sense for us," he said.
The deal also brings Iluminere, the agency's digital marketing operation, into the Meet the People fold — adding what the company described as social-first creative capabilities. (One imagines there is a moment in every acquisition negotiation when someone uses the phrase "social-first" and everyone nods as if they know precisely what it means.)
Meet the People has been building its collection of agencies with the patience of someone furnishing a house one room at a time, acquiring shops that offer what the network calls complementary capabilities rather than redundant ones. The Loomis acquisition follows that pattern, adding regional presence and a specialty practice simultaneously.
For Loomis, which has operated out of Dallas for some years now, the arrangement offers the resources of a larger holding structure while presumably maintaining some measure of local identity — the usual bargain struck in these transactions, and one that works out better in some cases than in others.
Mr. Ringel, for his part, now has his Southern hub. The map looks slightly more complete.
