There is a certain irony in a company that makes its living helping others connect their data choosing this particular moment to run advertisements about trustworthiness.

LiveRamp, the adtech firm that has spent years positioning itself as a kind of neutral Switzerland for customer data — helping brands, publishers, and platforms move information around without playing favorites — is launching its first brand campaign on connected television. The 15- and 30-second spots will run on Netflix for the next five months, carrying a message about reliability, security, and the importance of good data in an age of artificial intelligence.

The timing is notable. Publicis Groupe, the French holding company that owns Saatchi & Saatchi, Leo Burnett, and Starcom, among many others, is in the process of acquiring LiveRamp. The deal has prompted the sort of questions one might expect when a company that has built its reputation on neutrality is about to become part of one of the four largest agency networks on earth. Will WPP still use it? Will Omnicom? Will Dentsu?

Jessica Shapiro, LiveRamp's chief marketing officer, said the campaign was in development before news of the Publicis deal became public and is intended primarily as "a response to the acceleration of AI." She added that the company's commitment to neutrality remains unchanged. "We have always been neutral and worked with companies and agencies across the board," Ms. Shapiro said. "And we're not expecting a change on that front."

(Whether the competitors of one's new parent company share that expectation is, of course, a separate question.)

The campaign, developed with Archetype, an agency owned by the London-based Next 15 Group, will also appear on YouTube and various social platforms. LiveRamp is hoping the effort will increase its share of voice in the market and help it win new business — goals that have taken on a certain urgency now that the company's future ownership is settled but its future relationships are not.

The advertisements promise that LiveRamp can help marketers "deliver experiences customers want, maximize marketing returns, and drive more revenue." It is the sort of language that could describe almost any company in the sector. The question, for LiveRamp, is whether the message will be heard the same way once the Publicis letterhead is on the door.
