The line between defendant and commentator has always been porous in American celebrity culture, but it has rarely been erased quite so efficiently.

Karen Read, who was found not guilty last year of charges related to the death of her boyfriend, the Boston police officer John O'Keefe, is now preparing to become a podcaster — specifically, a true-crime podcaster who will examine other people's legal troubles alongside the lawyer who secured her acquittal.

The weekly video series, which carries the title "Read Between the Lines" (yes, that is the actual name), will debut on YouTube in early 2027, produced by Crime House, the true-crime division of the creator media company Pave Studios. Alan Jackson, Ms. Read's attorney, will serve as co-host.

According to Pave, the program will "take a fresh new look at the modern justice system from the eyes of a wrongly accused woman and her trial lawyer," examining a different case each week, from local Massachusetts controversies to national headlines like the Idaho college slayings.

"Alan isn't simply analyzing these cases from the sideline," Ms. Read said in a statement. "He's represented high-profile clients in some of the most closely watched and scrutinized legal battles."

Mr. Jackson, for his part, offered the observation that "when the justice system falters, lives hang in the balance."

(One imagines the production meetings will not lack for conviction.)

The arrangement suggests how thoroughly the true-crime genre has colonized the media landscape — and how quickly a defendant can pivot from subject to analyst. Ms. Read's own case inspired an Investigation Discovery docuseries, "A Body in the Snow," and a scripted Amazon series starring Elizabeth Olsen is currently in production.

The deal was brokered by UTA Creators. Whether Ms. Read's new role as legal commentator proves as durable as her tabloid notoriety remains, of course, an open case.
