The job of running a streaming service has never been mistaken for a restful occupation, but Casey Bloys is about to discover just how much less restful it can become.

With the Paramount-Skydance acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery now moving toward completion, the combined company announced that Mr. Bloys, the veteran HBO executive who has been chairman and chief executive of content for HBO and Max, will assume responsibility for streaming content across both Paramount+ and Max. It is, by any measure, a considerable expansion of his portfolio.

Mr. Bloys succeeds Cindy Holland, who had been serving as chair of Paramount's direct-to-consumer business, overseeing both Paramount+ and Pluto TV, the company's free ad-supported streaming platform. Ms. Holland came to Paramount after a long tenure at Netflix, where she led United States originals during the streamer's aggressive expansion years.

Industry analysts have long anticipated that the two streaming services would eventually be combined into a single platform, though the companies have not announced a timeline for such a consolidation. (One imagines the integration meetings will require a great deal of coffee.)

The financial stakes are substantial. For the first half of 2026, Paramount's direct-to-consumer operations generated $1.1 billion in advertising revenue, part of $4.9 billion in total revenue for the period. Warner Bros. Discovery's streaming advertising brought in an estimated $610 million to $625 million over the same span, drawn from roughly $6 billion in combined advertising and subscription revenue.

Both operations have shown growth — Paramount's streaming advertising rose 9 percent in the first quarter and 8 percent in the second, while Warner Bros. Discovery reported 19 percent revenue growth in the first quarter followed by 8 to 9 percent in the second.

Mr. Bloys, who built his reputation shepherding prestige programming at HBO, now finds himself with considerably more real estate to manage — and, presumably, considerably more meetings to attend.
