The casting of celebrity ambassadors for premium spirits has become so ritualized that one can almost recite the script in advance: the actor, usually British, usually at the precise moment of ascending fame, is shown in a setting of quiet luxury, engaged in some vaguely aspirational activity that requires neither exertion nor explanation.

Johnnie Walker Blue Label, the top-shelf expression of the Diageo-owned Scotch whisky brand, has now handed that familiar role to Callum Turner, the British actor known for his appearances in the "Fantastic Beasts" franchise, the Apple TV+ series "Masters of the Air," and the film "The Boys in the Boat."

The year-long ambassadorship begins with a 60-second video in which Mr. Turner enters a luxurious hotel suite, pours himself a Blue Label from the bar, dresses for an unspecified event, and pauses to write the brand's longstanding tagline, "Keep Walking," in his diary before departing. (One assumes the diary entry was not tax-deductible.)

"Callum embodies that same spirit: quietly persistent, endlessly dedicated to his craft, forging his own path while staying true to his roots," said Neil Shah, global brand director for Johnnie Walker, in a statement that could, with minor adjustments, describe any number of previous ambassadors for any number of whisky brands.

The video is the first in what the company describes as an ongoing social series positioning Mr. Turner as a leading man "putting Johnnie Walker Blue Label at the heart of every celebration, big or small." Future installments will reportedly show Mr. Turner visiting the Johnnie Walker distillery in Scotland, where he will explore the blending process.

The "Keep Walking" tagline, it should be noted, has been walking itself since 1999 — a longevity that, in advertising years, qualifies as ancient.
